Overpolishing Floors Can Make Them Too Slippery: Whenever you use an excess of floor polish on granite floors that have high foot traffic, such as in spaces such as the kitchen and bathrooms where there may be a higher risk of slipping and falling. Granite flooring should be carefully sealed and polished to ensure it is safe to work on.
Avoid Polishing Over Weak Seals: Granite can only be polished over a strong and solid seal. If you are not sure about the last time your granite slabs or tiles were sealed, you should perform a water penetration test, which can be accomplished by pouring small amounts of water about 3 inches in diameter on various surface spots. If the water seeps through and leaves dark spots or rings within 30 minutes, the water is penetrating the granite, so it should be sealed with a stone-safe granite sealer before polishing.
Polishing Before Sealing Is Problematic: Sealing after polishing is a common mistake made by homeowners who clean, seal, and polish with spray-and-wipe solutions specially formulated for granite surfaces. Avoid Using Common Household Cleaners: The granite polishing process should always begin with a good deep cleaning of the surface, but homeowners should never use common household cleaners for this purpose. Stone & Tile Floor Cleaner
Modern Stone Care Stone & Tile Floor Cleaner is a neutral (ph 7) marble safe floor cleaner which is to be used for regular maintenance on any hard surface not harmed by water. It was originally made to protect calcite based stones, such as marble, limestone, & travertine, which are alkaline in nature due to the mineral content, from chemical etching. It’s no rinse, streak free properties make this cleaner ideal for any hard surface, as it does not leave a dulling film or residue. Special organic slats in its formula act as “moisturizers” thus preventing natural stone from “drying out.” It also contains optical brighteners to enhance the finish of the surface on which it is used.
Pure Stone Streakless Countertop & Shower Cleaner
Pure Stone by Modern Stone Care is a slightly alkaline (ph 9) cleaner designed for marble, limestone, granite, corian, silestone and other manmade and natural hard surfaces. It is marble safe (will not chemically etch) and dries streak free. It’s no rinse formula makes it ideal for countertops and vanities. Its optical brighteners enhance the finish on natural stone.

Natural stone is a gorgeous and versatile material that can be used in countless ways around your home. Some of the main uses for natural stone include flooring, counters, and the interior of showers. While this stone is very strong and can actually outlive you, it must be properly cared for in order to maintain its gorgeous appearance and strong surface.
The reason natural stone requires regular maintenance in order to stay in good condition is because it is a very porous material. This means the surface of the stone contains several tiny holes. These holes lead to tunnels throughout the stone. So even though your giant slab of marble or granite may appear to be completely solid, it actually is made up of thousands of tiny holes.
Imagine a lightly colored sponge being drizzled with a deep red liquid, let’s say red wine. The sponge will absorb this liquid beyond the surface. So if you were to cut into the sponge you would be able to see a pathway in which the red liquid was absorbed into the stone.
Now, red wine and many other liquids and materials are acidic. Whenever an acidic substance is absorbed into your natural stone it not only enters through these hollow pathways, it also can cause damage to these pathways that will leave your natural stone brittle and weakened.
Whenever you are cleaning or treating natural stone, you want to avoid all acidic cleaner. This includes anything citric, vinegar, and many other ingredients you find in household cleaners. For instance, while bleach is a great cleaning product, introducing it to your natural stone would be a terrible idea. It could erode your stone, leaving it in poor condition. Additionally, it is very important, in order to maintain your natural stones seal, that you do not use any abrasive or harsh cleaning equipment on your stone.
